History of the Flag of Russia

The flag of Russia was first used in 1696 and was later officially adopted in 1883. Although the flag has been used with different colors and patterns at various periods in Russia’s history, its current colors and layout were adopted back in 1991. Russia, which previously used the flag of the Soviet Union, had to change its flag after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Today, as a symbol of Russia’s independence recognized by all countries of the world, the flag of Russia is used in many different areas both at home and abroad.

The flags used by countries are not made up of random colors or symbols. Flags are made up of colors and symbols that are important to a nation. In this way, it is aimed to increase the nation’s loyalty to the flag and to constantly remember the successes or defeats of its past. Although the flag of Russia is a very simple flag, it has many meanings. The flag of Russia consists of three different colors on the ground. These colors are arranged in equal strips of one-third from top to bottom and are white, blue and red respectively. These colors are considered the colors of Panslavism. For many years Russia has endeavored to unite the Slavic races and unite them into a single state. To some extent, it has succeeded in this endeavor. Today, even though most of the Slavic states have become independent, Russia still includes the colors of Panslavism on its flag as an indication of this goal. These colors on the flag of Russia also have some meanings that they carry separately. The white color expresses the nobility and nobility of the Russian people. Noble Russian tsars and counts have also always included this color on their banners. The blue color signifies the loyalty of the people of the country and Slavs in general. Indeed, the Russian people are fiercely loyal to something to which they are attached. The red color indicates the courage of the country.

Although the flags appear to be the same size when viewed from the outside, there is actually a size that each country has determined for itself. The size determined for the flag of Russia is 2:3. It is an obligation for flag manufacturers to stick to these dimensions when producing the Russian flag. Otherwise, the resulting flags can be considered as faulty production. Another important measure for the Russian flag is the order in which the color stripes will be placed and how much area these stripes will cover. Due to the fact that Russia is a very large state, the flag of Russia has a very wide range of uses both at home and abroad. This flag, which is flown in administrative buildings, especially the Kremli Palace, is also used in the bases and diplomatic representations of Russia in other countries. In addition, the Russian flag is also used in major official ceremonies organized every year in the country. The Russian people, who have a deep love for their flags, cover every side with flags during the ceremonies.
